About Karen

Let's get to know each other

I believe that the relationship between therapist and client is the foundation of meaningful change. My goal is to make you feel genuinely seen, heard, and supported from the very first session.

Karen Harvey, licensed therapist

My background

I'm Karen Harvey, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with years of experience supporting teens, adults, couples and parents through life's unique challenges. My work is shaped by a deep belief that every person deserves a space where they can bring their whole self, without judgment. I bring warmth, curiosity and genuine care to every session.

I hold a Master's degree in Psychology, with a dual emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy and Clinical Counseling. Prior to becoming a therapist, I was a life coach for over twenty years, certified through the International Coaching Federation. In this capacity, I was a weekly columnist for the Sacramento Bee's SacMomsClub website for two years, offering support for local parents. I also work as an Employee Assistance Program trainer, and have done over 800 presentations on topics relating to parenting, mental health, resilience, communication, Emotional Intelligence, stress management, diversity and inclusion (including LGBTQIA+ issues), body language, personal growth, and a variety of health and wellness areas.

Outside the therapy room, I'm a mother of two grown children, a volunteer, an avid reader, a lifelong learner, and a dedicated ally to those within the LGBTQIA+ community. I believe that meaningful change is always possible, and I strive to help each client to work toward becoming the most authentic version of themself, and to create a life that aligns with their values and goals.

My approach

No two people are the same, and no two therapy journeys look alike. I draw from multiple modalities to meet you right where you are.

Warmth first

I care deeply about my clients, and strive to create an environment where clients feel valued and free to be exactly who they are. This is a judgement-free zone, and your authentic self is always welcome.

Collaborative

We work together. I bring expertise; you bring your lived experience and your desire for meaningful change. Our collaboration is the key to growth.

At your pace

There's no rush. Therapy is about taking the time to uncover and explore beliefs, patterns and parts of you that you may not have recognized, thought about, or talked about before. I'm here for you, however long your journey takes.

To see whether therapy with me is the right fit for you, I offer a free 15-minute initial consultation by phone - no pressure, no commitment.
